Wordpress plugin: Get Post

I finished one of the small coding projects I was working on. Well, finished it enough for a release. The results are viewable here:

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/get-post/

Get Post is a plugin that adds a tag to wordpress: [get-post]. This tag allows you to display the latest post with a given tag in another post or a page.

I like the idea of this. Just not having any luck getting it to work.

I would love to see a version that allows you to select a category and the number of posts you want to display.

I will keep fiddling!

Thanks!

Let me know how it goes, or shoot me an email so I can help you out. What have you tried?

Bear in mind it doesn't work on categories (yet) - it works on tags.

Is it possible to get the 5 latest posts across all tags/categories with this?

Basically, I'm trying to create a static homepage that also displays the 5 latest post titles with dates and links to them.

Jamie - I'm trying to install the get-post plugin for use with the fusion theme in WP 2.7, and getting the following error when I activate it...

Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /wp-content/plugins/get-post.php on line 41

Any thoughts?? Thanks. BTW-Love your concept for this plugin-very helpful!!

Rick, my best guess is that you are running PHP 4. This plugin requires PHP 5.

James,
This is a great plugin..is there a way that this plugin will process "read more" to shorten up the posts as i am trying to make a home page with a few categories or tags pulled to the front. I am fashioning the site after the lower part of this website front page. http://www.brookegriffin.com/
Any information you could provide to get my site to look like this one would be much appreciated. Thanks
Cameron

Hi - I love this plugin! Thank you for creating it and then generously sharing it!

I have ONE blog post for which I get an error message when I publish or update the post in WP, with this plug-in in use in the post. When I try to publish or update, this text appears as the result:

Fatal error: __clone method called on non-object in /home/timcol9/public_html/sitectrl/wp-content/plugins/get-post/get-post.php on line 42

However, the published or updated post DOES contain the output from the Get Post call.

One problem: this problem causes something else inside WP to choke, such that it doesn't notify subscribers for my blog about that one post.

Any ideas on how I can work around this?

Thanks,
Tim

Hi Tim,

Sounds like it might be a conflict with another plugin perhaps? What version of wordpress and what plugins are you using?

I might be able to resolve this issue. My plugin shouldn't really activate when you publish so I could probably add a conditional there.

Hi James -

It's WP 2.9.2
